The Star Wars movies have been around since 1977 and have produced plenty of bounty hunters, good guys, bad guys, porgs, and what have you. What it has not given us is old school lovemaking like say, Game of Thrones. That’s a distinct lack of intimacy for people who spend a lot of time in space with each other.

The movies are not sexy in nature, mostly because they are space opera meant for children and parental guidance is mostly for sci-fi action and violence. The movie is more concerned with incredible space battles, fancy gadgets, and such technological stuff. Seriously though, Star Wars, at 44 years old, you need some fucking sex.

Anyway, there may not be an outright sex scene, but that doesn’t mean there are no sexual undertones. Here I look at the best of the bunch.

Solo: A Star Wars Story- Han and Qi’ra

Solo: A Star Wars Story has a scene that almost shouts ‘we should probably just hook up right away.’ It happens when Qi’ra (played by Emilia Clarke) is looking at the cape closet in the Millennium Falcon’s master bedroom (if anyone even knew it was there). Her old sweetheart Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) stops and tells her how they should catch up and actually motions to the bed.  Some emotional tension follows; its clear Han is down to hooking up, but Qi’ra is working for an intergalactic gangster now.  They actually do end up making out hot and heavy, but they are interrupted. That was so fucking close.

The Last Jedi: Kylo Ren and Rey

There are lots of love stories on Star Wars, but there is a glaring lack of intimacy and physical contact. It says a lot, then, that the series director Rian Johnson said at a panel that the scene in which Rey and Kylo Ren touch fingers is about as sexy as the franchise is about to get.

The ultimate expression of that is focusing [the shot] even tighter when there’s contact,” he said. “To me, one of my favorite shots of the movie is those two fingers touching. It’s the closest thing we’ll get to a sex scene in a Star Wars movie.”

Thanks to a forced force connection, Kylo (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) spend most of this movie inching closer and closer, and when these two share the screen, there is no denying the lusty chemistry between them.  However, don’t expect them to be engaging in any extracurricular activities.

Return of the Jedi: Han and Leia

Han spends a decent amount of Return of the Jedi fearing that Princess Leia was in love with Luke and not him. But near the end, she sort of clears that up by declaring that her love for Luke is more ‘familial’ because he is her brother. She then ends up planting a steamy kiss on her true love in a happy ending to what was certainly a swoon-worthy moment. Han and Leia may as well take a prize for the best couple of the galaxy. Their cute banter and sheer devotion to each other makes these two lover birds the favorite of the franchise.

The Force Awakens: Rey and Finn

The chemistry between these two is evident throughout The Force Awakens. They serve viewers with exciting situations that leave you wondering whether there is a Star Wars romance going on or whether it is just friendship. Everyone wishes to see more of them together with the hope that it might actually lead to something steamy.

The Last Jedi: Finn and Rose

Finn and Rose share a close, albeit brief kiss on the lips during the Battle of Crait at the end of The Last Jedi. The two lightly flirt through their adventure to Canto Bight and beyond and although the kiss won’t exactly fill you with heat, it takes their relationship towards the romantic, not to mention that their relationship could incite a sort of love triangle with Finn, Rey, and Rose.

Revenge Of the Sith: Padmé and Anakin

Padmé and Anakin steal a quick kiss when Padmé breaks the news to Anakin that she is pregnant.  The kiss is quick and done in secrecy which makes it a bit special (you know how it is with kisses given in secret). It is also in relation to pregnancy news which ultimately dooms Padmé. You can call it bittersweet.

Attack Of The Clones: Padmé And Anakin

Admittedly, the Padmé and Anakin romantic story appears poorly scripted, but I have to give it to them; they had an amazing secret wedding at the end of Attack of the Clones. The marriage is sealed with a sunset kiss as Padmé takes Anakin’s newly robotic hand as C-3PO and R2-D2 look on. This marriage is doomed to fail, but that’s precisely what makes this kiss both romantic and strange.

Finally

So there you have it. That’s as close as you come to seeing a sex scene in Star Wars. There have been rumors going around that some sex were deleted, but that’s not something I can immediately confirm. The producers of Game of Thrones are also rumored to be interested in taking over Star Wars, and that maybe could bring up the possibility of more explicit scenes. In the meantime, you will have to be content with the occasional kissing and touching.
